Guerrero, fighting as a welterweight for the first time, weighed in at 145¾, with Aydin at 146½. The two will be vying for the interim WBC welterweight title, with the full title currently held by Floyd Mayweather, who is scheduled to be released from jail on August 3.
The Showtime co-feature will pit Akron, Ohio, prospect Shawn Porter (19-0, 14 KO) against veteran Alfonso Gomez (23-5-2, 12 KO) in a junior middleweight bout. Porter weighed in at 152, with Gomez at 151½, according to Golden Boy, or Porter weighed 146¼ and Gomez weighed 146½, according to Showtime. One way or the other, these dudes made weight!
On the Showtime Extreme portion of the telecast, a pair of strong young fighters will be in action. George Groves (14-0, 11 KO) has been sent over by Frank Warren, and won't be defending his British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles, as he takes on Francisco Sierra (25-5-1, 22 KO) in a catchweight bout. Groves weighed in at 169½ and Sierra at 170.

(AP) GLASGOW, Scotland - Yuki Otsu scored in the first half of Japan's shocking 1-0 win over 10-man Spain in men's Olympic football Thursday, a victory that threatened the Spaniards' chances of winning a gold medal.
Otsu broke away from his marker during a corner in the 34th minute and the ball landed at his feet for a simple tap-in past goalkeeper David de Gea.
Spain's under-23 team wants to win Olympic gold to add to the World Cup and European Championship titles held by the country's full national team.
But Japan forward Kensuke Nagai caused major problems for Spain, slipping behind defenders with quick runs.
Spain center back Inigo Martinez was sent off for a foul while trying to stop Nagai from scoring. After that, Japan controlled the tempo and could have scored at least five more.

Glen Johnson, Future Hall of Famer: Not One of the G.O.A.T.s but Perhaps the Best
On July 13, 2012, Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson announced his retirement after rising prospect Andrzej Fonfara convincingly outpointed him in Chicago in front of an overwhelmingly pro-Fonfara crowd.
If the fight was Johnson’s last, and there hasn’t been any indication in the past week to suggest otherwise, what a typical Johnson-like fight to go out on: on the road against a young, tall, and hungry prospect in a fight most big names who are due for one more big payday, especially Johnson, shouldn’t have taken.
Johnson, however, unlike most of today’s big-named fighters who have made their mark by expending more effort and taking more risks in their ring entrances, clothing lines, and prefight TV specials than they have in the sport, has sought out and taken the fights that he believed would be competitive, fan-friendly, and memorable. In fact, on the eve of the Fonfara fight, Johnson told me, “The best guys need to compete against a certain level of fighter…I hate to see the one-sided fight…I don’t like to watch a fight and feel sorry for one guy. I want it to be competitive.”
Throughout Johnson’s career, especially in the last fifteen years, he has been more than competitive against the top fighters from 160lbs to 175lbs and no one has ever felt sorry for him. In an era in which most of the talented fighters and biggest names carved out their legacies by fighting overmatched opponents in grossly overhyped pay-per-view events with stipulations on everything from judges, referees, catch weights and glove sizes to locations, venues, and ring sizes, Johnson built a reputation as a true fight fan’s fighter willing to fight anyone, anywhere, under any conditions—a fighter who amassed a throwback record of 51-17-2 with 35 KOs over a nineteen year professional career that included fights in eight countries, fourteen U.S. states, and dozens of opponents’ hometowns.
So, is Johnson a hall of famer? If the criteria being used to determine his worthiness is predicated on his status as an all-time great, then Johnson, a two-time champion with wins over some of the best fighters of his era and close fights with some of the rest, is no worse than borderline. If the criteria being used, as expressed by the IBHOF, is to chronicle boxing’s rich heritage, then I can think of no greater ambassador to that heritage and history from this era than Glen Johnson.
Johnson is, perhaps and unfortunately, one of the last of a breed of fighters who accounted for themselves to anyone in and out of the ring with honesty and complete integrity. After his knockout of Roy Jones Jr. on the biggest of stages, Johnson said it best: “I am not the best fighter in the world. I am just the guy willing to fight the best.” read more

AMIR KHAN VOWS TO KO DANNY GARCIA
Newly reinstated WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan (28-2-1, 18 KO’s)has vowed to knock out WBC champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO’) when they face off in a unification title fight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Sunday, Manila Time.
The fight will be telecast on the popular weekly boxing show “Big Time Bakbakan” over AKTV IBC 13 at 12:00 noon.
In their final pre-fight press conference Khan said in no uncertain terms, “I will knock Danny Garcia out. I will take the world titles home. I know Danny didn’t train as hard as me. I promise I will knock him out. I’m gonna hurt him.”
Turning to Garcia’s father and trainer Angel Garcia who has belittled Khan at every turn, Britain’s 2000 Athens Olympic silver medalist said “I cannot wait until after the fight when we stand here and I have knocked your son out.”
Garcia responded in equally forceful fashion. He said “My Dad talked shit 23 times and I backed it up 23 times. I am 23-0. Come Saturday he will have talked shit 24 times and I am going to back it up for the 24th time.”
Khan’s celebrated Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach joined the verbal joust saying “ Danny, I wish you luck, but I’m not so sure about your dad.”
For his part Angel Garcia said “This fight is going to how the world who is the boss. Danny is the boss. Khan has never faced a Latino like Danny.”
Garcia is an American of Puerto Rican heritage and won the title with a twelve round unanimous decision over ageing Mexican warrior Erik “El Terrible” Morales last March 24.
Khan I coming off a hugely controversial split decision loss to Lamont Peterson in his hometown of Washington DC last December 10. Peterson subsequently tested positive for a banned substance and Khan was given a lift when the WBA reinstated him as super champion.

Wladimir Klitschko retained all five of his heavyweight titles on Saturday, beating mandatory challenger Tony Thompson by sixth-round TKO.
Klitschko was dominant yet again, using his devastating power and beautiful technique to batter Thompson throughout. He controlled the entire fight, and after knocking Thompson down in the sixth, the referee stopped the fight, as the challenger was clearly unable to continue.
It was another boringly breathtaking performance from Klitschko, who hasn't been truly challenged in nearly a decade. His last loss was way back in 2004. Since then, he's rattled off 15 straight victories, annihilating any fighter who steps in front of him.
Thompson was often reluctant to do just that, as he resorted to timidly evading the massive Ukrainian. Klitschko kept moving forward, though, landing blow after blow before Thompson's mind and body finally failed him.
The 36-year-old Klitschko improved his record to 58-3 with 51 knockouts. Outside of his older brother Vitali—whom he refuses to fight—the younger Klitschko is clearly the best heavyweight of his generation.
He may even be one of the top-five heavyweights of all-time, but with the frustrating lack of competition, we'll never know just how great Klitschko is. All he can do is keep beating the fighters in front of him, but unfortunately for the fans, it's easy to see that the rest of the division is in shambles.
Maybe one day we will get the Klitschko vs. Klitschko bout we all crave. Until then, you will just have to appreciate the brothers' unparalleled greatness.
